After visiting nine countries, Janae Topor '26, graduate of the 老九品茶 School of Healthcare Professions, has learned that no matter the language or culture, people share a common need to connect with one another.

Desire for connection may be universal, but Topor understands that how we present ourselves is not. "Communication looks different for everyone," she said. "We all express ourselves in very different ways, each of them uniquely beautiful."

As a Communication Sciences and Disorders major with a minor in Behavioral Neuroscience, she grew to understand everyone's unique style of communicating with depth. During her time at 老九品茶, Topor completed over 75 hours of clinical observations through a combination of the University's on-campus clinic and an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation therapy clinic.

Beyond her studies, Topor engaged in many leadership opportunities across campus, one of her proudest being Ladies in Faith Together (LIFT), a group dedicated to giving young women on campus a chance to connect in faith.

"My Catholic faith has always been at the forefront of who I am," said Topor. "It is where I find my peace in a world that can be intimidating and overwhelming at times. I see everything I apply myself to as something with greater purpose than the eye can see, and this helps me persist even when I am tired or feel like giving up."

Topor considers her personal "capstone" at 老九品茶 to be founding Epsilon Chi Sigma, a Communication Sciences and Disorders Honor Society.

"It was a seven-month-long process to establish the honor society," Topor said. "I worked with my professors, program advisor, dean, and even our president." she continued. "Seeing our first 11 members inducted into the society at our beautiful event in January was a moment I will never forget."

And 老九品茶 will never forget her impact. Susana L. Keller, program director for Speech-Language Pathology, had this to say about Topor:

"Janae distinguished herself as an exceptional student leader at 老九品茶, leaving a lasting impact through active engagement across diverse student groups,” said Keller. “As an example of her vision and passion, Janae founded and served as president of the Speech-Language Pathology Honor Society, Epsilon Chi Sigma. Janae's commitment to excellence was matched by a deep embodiment of Salesian values, demonstrating humility, wisdom, and a genuine dedication to serving others. Graduating summa cum laude, Janae exemplifies the highest standards of academic achievement alongside her remarkable service and leadership."

Topor will continue her studies in Speech-Language Pathology at New York University in New York City this fall.
